Und genau das treibt Hostern die Sorgenfalten auf die Stirn. Allein schon weil neuere PHP-Versionen aktiv weiterentwickelt werden und fast jede neue Version auch Sicherheits- lücken schließt, ist ein zeitiges und zügiges Upgrade empfehlenswert. Aufgrund der teilweise fehlenden Abwärtskompatibilität kann ein sol- ches Upgrade allerdings auch dazu führen, dass bestehender Code auf einmal nicht mehr wie zuvor funktioniert. Und so zieren sich einige Hoster. Upgrades werden sehr spät durchge- führt, Upgrades werden gar nicht durchgeführt (aber Kunden angebo- ten, auf einen neuen Server mit der neuen Version umzuziehen) oder Sicherheitspatches aus neueren Versionen werden für ältere Versionen zurückportiert, sodass alter Code noch läuft, aber neu entdeckte Angrif- fe trotzdem nicht möglich sind. Chapter 1 CHAPTER 1 ASP.NET AJAX, Ajax, and ASP.NET 1 This book is about ASP.NET AJAX (known in pre-release versions as “Atlas”), a col- lection of new Microsoft technologies that enables web developers — particularly ASP.NET 2.0 developers—to more easily create web sites with pages that use Ajax. Ajax-style pages provide a richer user interface. Such a page is also more responsive because it can respond immediately to users, and can interact more or less immedi- ately with the server. ASP.NET AJAX also includes tools for creating mashups, web applications that combine content from multiple sites, typically using the APIs pro- vided by third-party web services.
